AFRO-NETS is about malaria (32)
-------------------------------
Tom, those are helpful posts but WHO and donor policies can al-
low something without actively supporting it. This is case with
insecticide spraying and DDT, and has been since RBM's inception
in 1998 and the signing of the POPS treaty in 1999.
George, please refer to any of the links I have previously
posted for reference to the history of DDT use for malaria con-
trol. This is not a few overzealous environmentalists, but a
systematic campaign over decades against the use of DDT.
"Malaria and the DDT story" presents this argument clearly and
concisely. Particularly insightful is the discussion of the atten-
dants to the 1999 WHO POPS treaty, their interactions, formula-
tion of lobbying groups and expression of interests. I have in-
cluded the link in previous posts, but anyone interested in a
PDF version can request one from me directly. I will be happy to
send it through. I can't attach anything to the AFRO-NETS list
serve.*
