Food for a never-aging thought (2)
----------------------------------
Just a quick comment. Globalization is not the problem but
rather how it is being carried out.
Focusing on human rights alone will not put food in one's mouth
and put a descent shelter over one's head. Yet human rights is a
key component of building any sustainable society. So in the de-
velopment of any human rights program it is best to also con-
sider how local people can be empowered economically and in a
way that does not degrade the environment.
Consider also the work that groups Ashoka Foundation
http://www.ashoka.org/home/index.cfm have done in supporting
people who have the courage to speak out on various urgent is-
sues while also empowering them economically as one alternative
to a more linear approach of focusing on the wrongs of global-
ization and the need for human rights. The Social Entrepreneu-
rial http://www.ashoka.org/fellows/social_entrepreneur.cfm model
is an opportunity to transcend old adversarial models of seeking
solutions (defining ourselves by what we stand against) and em-
powers us by encouraging the development of a more flexible way
of relating to the world as it exists now.
