RFI: ACT manufacture in Africa (3)
----------------------------------
Welcome to the real world Anke... I would like to tell you that
there is no factory in the developing world manufacturing ACT at
least as far as I know though I think the factory that manufac-
tures Coartem is in China though the company is Swiss. There are
some factories in India manufacturing a combination of Artemisi-
nin and Amodiaquine though this is only co-packaged and not co-
formulated. I believe there are efforts to get the manufacturing
of ACT to be done in developing countries but you must remember
that drug manufacturing is a business not a charity so the
pharma companies do business where they will make a profit.
If you area in Mbarara try and talk to someone in the Epicentre
research base which is located near the mortuary gate, they will
have a lot of information on malaria... and say hi to a friend
of mine there called Carole Fogg. Hope that is of some help to
you. If you need anything more just write me on my e-mail and I
will give you as much as I can.
