Call for applications: Master of Public Health Degree Course
 
Objectives:
At the end of the course the public health specialist should be 
able:
1. To translate health policies and programme guidelines into 
implementable plans.
 
2. To design, organise, implement and evaluate disease preven-
tion programmes. 
 
3. To allocate health resources efficiently.
 
4.To provide strategic, operational and technical support in 
public health to private and public national and international 
organisations and communities.
 
5. To work in a team and provide leadership and supervision as 
well as teaching public health to various groups involved in 
public health activities.
 
6. To conceptualize, design and conduct relevant public health 
research and make a critical interpretation of research results 
and make evidence based decisions.
 
7. To communicate effectively including making advocacy, lobby-
ing and negotiations for improvement of peoples health. 
 
8. To write and implement a health plan.
 
Eligibility: 
The course is designed for physicians, public health profession-
als, health social scientists and other health related profes-
sionals holding a university degree in their field and having at 
least two years of working experience in community health care, 
management of health services and/or programme administration.
 
Duration of the course: 
The course duration is twelve months starting September 2006 and 
ending in September the following year. The first nine months 
consist of full time course work followed by three months of 
community problem based dissertation.
 
Costs and Scholarships: 
The course tuition fee is USD 4,000. Living expenses inclusive 
of accommodation in Dar-es-Salaam and fieldwork for the disser-
tation is USD 6,000. Neither the School of Public Health and So-
cial Sciences nor the University of Dar-es-Salaam offers schol-
arships. Applicants are advised to find their own sponsors.
