RFI: Difference between International health and Global health (3)
------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many "international" cities, where one can find resi-
dents from many parts of the world bringing different predispo-
sitions to different diseases, and exhibiting different disease
burdens. The ability to understand the commerce of disease bur-
den across national boundaries is international health.
Global health has maintained two meanings. One is disciplinary -
understanding and managing all the risk factors contributing to
disease in a population can be termed global (cultural, psycho-
logical, physical, and environmental factors). This is however,
better termed comprehensive health. Global health, in the con-
text of World Health Organization's Global Burden of Disease as-
sessments is an attempt to treat the entire human population as
the target for practicing public health tasks.
Hope this helps.
