Maputo, Mozambique
Dear Friends,
I would like to use the list to announce an Hypertension Teach-
ing Seminar that will be organized by the International Society
of Hypertension (ISH) Lower and Middle Income Countries Strate-
gic Initiatives Working Group, in collaboration with the Inter-
national Forum for Hypertension Control and Prevention in Africa
(IFHA) and that will happen in Maputo, Mozambique, on the 21st
and 22nd of September 2006. The Seminar is meant for medical
doctors up to the age of 50 and residing in Africa, who are in-
volved in the management and/or research in hypertension or hy-
pertension-related fields. The language will be English. Some
travel grants can be obtained to some participants that should
apply. The programme of the two-day seminar is the following:

Epidemiology of hypertension and contributing factors in Africa.

Measurement of blood pressure in low resource settings.

Evaluation, diagnosis and risk stratification of the hyperten-
sive patient.

13:30-18:00. Session 2
Ambulatory blood pressure, blood pressure variability, target
organ damage and prognosis.

Pathogenesis of hypertension in blacks.

Complications of hypertension in Africa.

There will be ample room for discussion after each presentation,
and abstracts on hypertension research in Africa for oral or
poster presentation will also be accept to be discussed with the
international faculty. Abstracts can cover results, but also re-
search plans and protocols can be submitted.
