RFI: Contacts in Sri Lanka/farmers' Unions
------------------------------------------
Anyone know people in Sri Lanka they wouldn't mind passing to my
friend from the London School of Economics?

After an agonising time of unemployment and frustrating short-
term temping, I am currently working on a consultancy contract
for a Norwegian NGO called The Development Fund (see link if in-
terested: http://www.utviklingsfondet.no/sw451.asp ).
The task assigned to me is two-fold:
1) Fact-finding How do farmers in Sri Lanka organise, what are
the unions' membership profiles like, what are their working
programmes and how do they help combat food insecurity etc.
2) Feasibility study is it advisable for my client organisa-
tion to invest in organisational building of farmers' organisa-
tion in Sri Lanka?
I leave for Colombo in a few days and will stay until 3rd week
of June. I have never been to Sri Lanka, and would be grateful
for any advice on travelling, on useful contacts or the like!
I would also be very interested in getting in touch with you if
you are working on, or know someone who are working on related
issues (farming, food security, farmers' organisations and their
development, organisational building, Sri Lanka, civil society
issues, organic farming, cooperatives, environment and farming
in Sri Lanka, conflict and farmers...)! Even if you just know
some cool people to hang out with in Sri Lanka, would be great
to know.
Thank you very much,
