Recruitment call for ICICI Bank's Development Strategy Group
(DSG), India

Who we are:

The DSG is located within ICICI Bank - India's largest private
sector Bank with an asset base of US$ 47 billion (see
http://www.icicibank.com). The Bank has a demonstrated commit-
ment to aligning its social and economic goals, and the DSG is
an innovative group that will build on the Bank's multiple human
development initiatives, working directly with its Executive Di-
rector, Dr Nachiket Mor.

Given the DSG's core focus, it will:

1. Identify and analyze economic and human development gaps in
specific geographies in India;
2. Build strategies to bridge those gaps by leveraging the
strengths of existing stakeholders and resources;
3. Facilitate the effective implementation of the strategies,
and measure their impact.

The DSG will have a strong focus on enabling synergies between
the private, non-profit and public sectors. It will additionally
build interdisciplinary knowledge for transferring on-ground
learnings about effective development strategies across geogra-
phies and sectors.

Thus, the DSG will

o Build effective regional development strategies that will work
towards alleviating poverty, by enabling human and economic de-
velopment in India;
o Lead and facilitate field action, wherever possible, with mul-
tiple local stakeholders at a decentralized level;
o Explore and facilitate synergies between the private, public
and non-profit sectors to further human development;
o Draw on available resources from the business, civil society,
government, international development and academic sectors - ap-
ply those learnings to local contexts;
o Integrate various development efforts within ICICI Bank, and
related research and civil society organizations;
o Represent ICICI Bank in various development forums.



Required competencies to be part of the DSG:

? Ability to analyze complex field realities, acting on that
analysis to identify the best available resources, and leverage
them for the economic and human development of that geography;
? Ability to draw on specialist knowledge where needed, synthe-
size that information and apply it to specific operational con-
texts;
? An understanding and interest in the private, public and non-
profit sectors- the ability to create synergies and manage rela-
tionships between the three;
? Ability to display high levels of social entrepreneurship, to
work in multicultural settings, to innovate and translate those
innovations into concrete results;
? Ability to manage multiple relationships successfully, to ne-
gotiate and leverage strengths of various stakeholders;
? Ability to understand the status of key development indica-
tors, community level issues, to identify socio-political and
economic reasons behind the success or failure of existing in-
terventions and service delivery providers;
? Ability to work closely with policy makers;
? A strong commitment to the social and economic development of
India's poor;
? Open-mindedness and the ability to change strategies when
needed to best achieve end objectives;
? The ability to be dynamic, take ownership and lead a range of
development projects, including but not limited to health, edu-
cation, micro finance, livelihoods, insurance, infrastructure,
shelter, community development, gender and policy advocacy.

Existing Institutions and knowledge resources
? This group will have access to and draw on a wealth of exist-
ing Institutional knowledge, including:
o Our work with the Social initiatives Group - action-research
projects in Early Child Health, Elementary Education and Univer-
salising access to basic financial services for the poorest of
the poor ( http://www.icicisocialinitiatives.org/> ).
o Our work in Reproductive Child Health, Safe Sex and HIV/AIDS.
o Our work on Financial sector development in India, including
the Center for Micro Finance Research, Center for Small and Me-
dium Enterprises Finance, Center for Development Finance, Center
for Insurance, Center for Advanced Financial Studies
(http://www.ifmr.ac.in)
o Our NGO enablement initiatives (http://www.icicicommunities.org/)
which include donations through GIVE Foundation; volunteering
through MITRA/I-VOLUNTEER; craft supply chain and marketing
through SANDHI; Development News and Information through IN-
FOCHANGE o Our efforts in District Level Initiatives for Human
Development and our work on Environmental Sustainability.
? Resources will additionally include existing partners who
range from grass roots NGOs and international development agen-
cies to private sector actors, Government bodies and interna-
tional academic institutions

What we are looking for:

We are looking for articulate, creative graduates with highly
developed logical and analytical reasoning skills, and demon-
strated problem-solving and entrepreneurial abilities. Ideally,
you should have a relevant Masters degree (MPAID/MBA/MA) in in-
terdisciplinary areas, such as International development, public
policy, public affairs, development finance or economics. You
should have the ability to negotiate both the international de-
velopment and the economic sectors, and at least 1-2 years of
work experience (experience or exposure via intern-
ships/fellowships in India or another developing country is an
added advantage). You should be comfortable working independ-
ently to build your own mandate, but also have excellent inter-
personal skills and the ability to manage team relationships.
You should be willing to travel to rural or peri-urban areas in
India. Above all, you should be someone who likes challenges,
and is looking for an opportunity to drive real, sustainable
change using an interdisciplinary approach. If this sounds like
