Netzkraft Movement (5)
---------------------
Craig,
I like it better when you stick with the whether ICT should come before
health care instead of reacting to what the good doctor at NetzKraft
says.
Regarding your comments about ICT vs health care... If ICT can
effectively address capacity building and governance in a positive
enough way then we should that they complement each rather than making
these comparisons as if one should come before the other.
Indeed the FACT is that the 400 plus billion spent on the war in Iraq
by the US could probably have allowed us to reach the MDGs!
The corruption in the management of the Aid program administered by the
US in Iraq only makes the situation appear worse because not only was
the war badly executed in what appears to be very convoluted intentions
but to top it all off the money earmarked to rebuilt Iraq has been rife
with "irregularities".
So then while there is no doubt the UN has problems but isn?t a bit
unfair it out as it as a corrupt institution in a world dominated by
truth, integrity and justice?
I hope the reactionary tendencies of Netzkaft does cause you to fall
into that spiral of reactionary thinking. People like John Bolton (US
ambassador to UN) are using the UN as a convenient punching bag and the
fact of it is, that it is untrue and unjust and does little to promote
a truly democratic and transparent process of reform of not just these
institutions but the global ECONOMIC system that drives them. I guess I
am being idealistic when I wish that those who are blasting away at UN
while conveniently overlooking the shortcomings of their nation-state
"sacred cows", would be able to just pause a bit amidst their rhetoric
and reflect. It all smacks a bit too much of jingoism to me.
Thanks for hearing me out.
