(July 2004) In response to an expressed need by the Female Genital 
Cutting (FGC) Interagency Working Group of USAID, PRB worked with four 
other collaborating agencies in 2003 and 2004 to answer the question: 
what information exists on female genital cutting and what information 
gaps are perceived by individuals and groups that work to eradicate 
this practice? 

Information was gathered via in-country questionnaires administered in 
eight African countries (Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, 
Mali, Senegal, and Uganda) where FGC is practiced and through the 
innovative Internet survey tool, Survey Monkey. The five groups that 
collaborated to evaluate the information (PRB, FHI PATH, Population 
Council, and the Manoff Group) also conducted an informal review of 29 
websites commonly known to carry information on FGC. 

The picture that has emerged?of particular gaps in information on best 
practices, success stories, and evaluated operations research--will 
prove useful to decision makers and program managers everywhere as they 
try to get the best information into the right hands.

Abandoning Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting: Information From Around 
the World

This CD-ROM, in English and French, is a collection of data and 
research on female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) from a wide 
variety of sources. Funded by USAID, this resource is a direct response 
to the findings of a 2004 survey, undertaken by the Population 
Reference Bureau with four collaborating partners, in which respondents 
said that serious information gaps on FGM/C exist. The CD-ROM fills 
some of these information gaps, particularly where the Internet is an 
expensive and unreliable method of research, by including material on 
various approaches used by organizations working toward abandonment of 
FGM/C, as well as on statistics, training efforts, and policy aspects.

Informations sur la Mutilation Génitale Féminine :Quelle est la 
situation ? Quels sont les besoins ?

Ce rapport très utile préparé par le groupe de travail 
interinstitutionnel sur la mutilation génitale féminine (MGF) de 
l?Agence des États-Unis pour le Développement International (USAID) est 
maintenant disponible en français. En réponse au besoin exprimé par le 
groupe de travail interinstitutionnel sur la MGF d?USAID, cinq agences 
collaboratrices (Population Reference Bureau, Family Health 
International, PATH, Population Council et le groupe Manoff) ont 
travaillé ensemble en 2003 et 2004 pour répondre à la question: quelles 
sont les informations existantes sur la mutilation génitale féminine et 
quelles lacunes en matière d?informations sont perçues par les 
personnes et les groupes engagés dans la lutte pour éliminer cette 
pratique ?

Des informations ont été recueillies grâce à des questionnaires 
distribués dans chaque pays (le Burkina Faso, l?Egypte, l?Ethiopie, la

Monkey. Les cinq agences ont aussi passé en revue 29 sites Internet 
connus pour présenter des informations sur la MGF.

d?informations sur les meilleures pratiques, les réussites et la 
recherche opérationnelle évaluée - sera utile aux preneurs de décision 
et responsables des programmes partout quand ils essaient de

Abandonner la mutilation génitale féminine/excision : Informations du 
Monde entier (août 2005)

Ce CD-ROM, en anglais et français, est une collecte de données et de 
résultats de recherches portant sur la mutilation génitale 
féminine/excision provenant de diverses sources. Financée par USAID, 
cette ressource est une réponse directe aux résultats d?une enquête  
entreprise en 2004 par le Population Reference Bureau avec quatre 
collaborateurs, qui a révélé que, selon les participants, il existe 
d?importants fossés d?information sur la mutilation/excision. Ce CD-ROM 
comble certains de ces fossés d?informations, en particulier là où 
l?Internet est une méthode de recherches chère et peu sure, en incluant 
diverses approches adoptées par des organisations travaillant à 
l?abandon de la mutilation/excision, ainsi que des statistiques, des 
efforts de formation et des aspects de la politique de gestion. Ces 
ressources sont disséminées à diverses ONG et individus de par le
