Food for a genuine pro-poor thought (3)
--------------------------------------

Hello All,

It is unfortunate that there has to be poor in the world and that most leaders of poor countries are indifferent or simply don't care how the poor citizenry has to live. There are times that aid is held in warehouses and sold or simply held until it is no good and then dumped unceremoniously.

Rock stars and movie stars are usually chasing their own agendas, usually extreme left in my experience. There are exceptions of course, but very few. Jane Fonda was seen as a idol to the poor in S E Asia but she had ulterior motives also.

The West sends aid and it doesn't get to those that need it. If they try for regime change, they are seen as exploiters and conquerors by the rest of the world. Some of the refugee camps I have been in I would say that $1 a day would be pretty good.

I do agree that depending on rock stars and politicians will depend on which way the political wind is blowing at the time. In my experience the most efficient way of helping and seeing the aid gets to the poor is through some of the religious organizations, or private international companies. They usually deliver the goods directly, not dump it at the port.

I still believe that if we do away with disease higher living conditions will follow closely.

The Panama Canal could never have been built without doing away with yellow fever and malaria first.
