Oxford/UNDP Human Development Training Course - September 2006
"Human Development: From Theory to Practice" training course will be held at Magdalen College Oxford University, 10-23 September 2006. Applications are due by 9 June 2006
Organized by UNDP's Human Development Report Office, the Human Development and Capability Association (HDCA), and the Department of International Development at the University of Oxford (Queen Elizabeth House).

Through the course, participants will improve their capacity to:
* Understand the theoretical foundations of human development and apply them across a wide range of policy, thematic and programme issues. This will include an in-depth understanding of measurement issues;
* Develop effective advocacy strategies to promote and expand the use of the human development approach within their own organizations and professional contexts;
* Participate in the preparation of a human development report, from concept to final product.
PARTICIPANT MIX The course will bring together UNDP and non-UNDP professionals working in development- related areas. The course is intended primarily for senior UNDP programme staff (programme officers, specialists, advisors) and members of HDR teams; senior researchers; policy-makers; national and international civil servants as well as government officials working on public policy issues; and economists, social statisticians and demographers working in the area of human development.
APPLICATION PROCESS Candidates may apply for the course through the application form available at http://hdr.undp.org/training/oxford/applications.cfm. Applications are due by Friday 9 June 2006. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of July.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Admission is selective and based on professional achievement, organizational responsibility and relevance to the person's current work. Basic knowledge of the human development conceptual framework is highly desirable. Participants should demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.
