Man positive, women negative - how?

I have a friend who has been living with a man for a year, he is positive (has two kids - the first one's mother died and the second is positive + the mother).  How the is it that she has tested negative all this time, does this mean he could be negative.  He was not honest with his life to his partner but things are coming out now, and he does not want to be tested but has said things that mean he is aware of his unproved HIV status.

Without God's interference how does she remain negative?  What is the best way then to handle things from this point on, how do you get him to test when he believes he is positive and you have proven to be negative, how do you handle this one?  We have failed to see how is the best way to handle it because he is adamant he cannot have another child who is going to be sick like the other two - meaning he knows his status yet it is unproven.
