Important question regarding HIV tranmission? (5)
------------------------------------------------
Dear Colleages,
As far as I conceptualize what I already know with regard to HIV transmission "from female to male in the absence of both wear and tear" the chances of transmission are still there, althought to a lesser extent, in the absence of the two circumstances. The urethra, being a mucous membrane, by nature are more penetratable by invading pathogen than other surfaces like skin.We know that during sex act,the female has a larger part of her mucus membrane exposed to the semen while for a man, only a small part of the urethra (the beggining of the penile urethra) is "exposed".
Therefore transmissibility is definetely not zero even in the absence of the traditionally known risk factors, and hence the role of male condom to protect both "wounds" and this exposed male urethra.
Thanks,
