Eliminating world poverty: making governance work for the poor (6)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Quite honestly, tackling poverty demands more than the tall policies that often marred by dwarfs of implementation. Unfortunately donor agencies also rey on the robust nature of proposals rather than whether proposals are actually converted to real life benefits for the poor masses. African leaders also know this and in most case exploit the 'gullibity' of the donor to attract funding. Nigeria, in the last fifteen years or so have spent quite a ransom on the project of poverty eradication. Yet he size of the population living under two dollars per day was about 93% in 2003! The WorldBank,2005 says this. What then do we have to show for the investment in poverty reduction. Believe me, the only thing we are able discern is that Coordinators are getting richer by the day to the extent that we do not know them with other types of job, some of us are under the impression that grant monies in their care may have been used to 'take care' of their private pockets. This is absolutely unacceptable and to say the least, common knowledge.
