Eliminating world poverty: making governance work for the poor (27)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello All,
I think we need to come to the realization that global politics are never going to take care of anything. I realize that the trend is shifting to global this and global that but individual freedom will never be served by a global anything. The only way of preserving individual freedom is for government to stay the hell out of the individual?s life.
The only legitimate function of government is for the security of the citizenry. This would include providing an environment that encourages goods and services to either the local or central government providing security. This of course would include disease elimination such as malaria control to keep the citizenry healthy. This in turn provides a work force able to consistently provide for itself and hopefully for export to other countries providing trade and therefore monies for security and progress for all.
These are the basics of economics and provide a sense of pride in local governmental involvement when all benefit.
Agriculture should always be encouraged if at all possible. Having stocks of foods that can be grown internally will ward off starvation as long as the stocks are not squandered or wasted. One can barter for other goods if needed. Basic agriculture is viable almost everywhere especially with the new genetically enhanced varieties that resist disease and drought.
Cheers
Craig
