Eliminating world poverty: making governance work for the poor (32)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Kris,

New World Order, One World Government, Xanadu. The concept sounds wonderful, having a society where all are equal and everyone lives the same. Idyllic nonsense I call it, a throwback from Karl Marx socialist utopia.

The problem is are we going to bring everyone else up to what level of living. Where do you draw the line, 4 bedroom house and $35,000 a year? The wealth is not there, sorry. That only leaves one way to go, 2 beds and $5000 a year? Is that acceptable?

Do you think a person that has a high IQ and goes on to earn a doctorate in say astro physics deserves to receive what a truck driver earns. Where is the incentive to excel? What about overtime on the truck driver to deliver that load of perishable strawberries what?s in it for him to keep going, he gets paid the same regardless. What about the farmer who needs to get his corn planted but he has fulfilled his obligations for the day. It will rain tonight and for the next week resulting in a lower yield and wet corn at harvest. This in turn results in more spoilage and higher costs to dry the crop and make it storable.

The point I am attempting to make is that when you make everything equal there is no incentive to excel. To rise above commonality, and make a contribution however small to mankind and its improvement. That is what makes free societies so great, they are not held back by ignorance and tyrannical rulers who squander away the wealth and lives of their citizenry. There is no reason to excel without incentive.

This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about Africa. Africa has more wealth and more potential than anywhere else on earth. It will forever stay the way it is unless someone grabs the bull by the horns and forces them to advance. I believe that a starting point is to eradicate malaria, a horrible disease that makes it impossible to have a reliable workforce. Once that is achieved industry will follow. Thus making a sense of pride in country and achievement of a sovereign nation. This is how we make a world that can function apart, but together in trade. Achieving freedom for all and having that ever important incentive to individually achieve great things,. Without it society stagnates into something like the old Soviet Union which was unable to even feed itself during the cold war. During the czars rule Russia exported food.

The short answer to your question is no!

Cheers
Craig
