Rumours in Medical Research in Africa
-------------------------------------
The editorial of vol 11 (7) of the journal of Tropical Medicine and International Health on: Popular concerns about medical research projects in sub-Saharan Africa--a critical voice in debates about medical research ethics by Geissler and Pool
(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=16827698&query_hl=2&itool=pubmed_docsum) disserves more discussion among Medical researchers (in Africa and beyond). I very much appreciate the great work done by the authors. While the concerns of the study participants were discussed with an impartial view, I still feel that the side of collaborating researchers also need to be dissected. I have witnessed many concerns, right from grant application, implementation and publication of study findings. The rumors on this side seem to be related to key principles of medical research ethics; fairness and distribution of benefits. Many more stones remain unturned and more rumors might exist in medical research community that expected.
