Vacancy: Senior Medical Physics Consultant
------------------------------------------

Country of assignment and location: Saudi Arabia, Jeddah

The project:

The King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah is a large
public hospital serving the entire western region of Saudi
Arabia. It is a teaching hospital for King Abdulaziz University
Jeddah, and offers post-graduate medical specialist training for
physicians in the western region. Technologically, the hospital
meets modern standards.

The Radiology unit performs approx. 60% of its work with digital
imaging and aims be completely film free in the near future. To
this end there are already several fully digital workstations
available in the Radiography and Fluoroscopy units. The
otherwise gradual transition from analogue to digital imaging is
carried out via CR technology. A PACS and an RIS are available
and integrated in a hospital information system. Large equipment
available in the unit includes two CT scanners (Siemens
Sensation 16 and GE Lightspeed QX/i) and two MRI units (Siemens,
closed and open).

Radiation therapy is operated jointly with the personnel at King
Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center. Two older Varian
Clinacs and an Oldedelft Simulator are in place. At the
beginning of the year a Siemens ONCOR (with cone beam CT) was
additionally put into operation and together with the newly
installed CT Somatom Sensation Open opens the way for the step
to IMRT and whole body stereotaxy. A LANTIS environment which
has also been newly installed ensures that the radiation
planning systems (Advantage Sim, Eclipse, KonRad) are linked to
the accelerator. The hospital has a Varian microSelectron with
associated BrachyVision planning software for HDR brachytherapy.

The Nuclear Medicine unit covers the customary diagnostic
spectrum with two dual-head cameras. It also conducts
radioiodine therapies.

All three units, radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine,
are administered in a single department. In addition to its
patient care tasks, this department is responsible for radiation
protection throughout the entire hospital. It is also integrated
in post-graduate specialist physician training and student
training at King Abdulaziz University.

Your tasks:

As Senior Medical Physics Consultant you are chiefly responsible
for
? supervising, implementing and further developing quality
assurance in the radiology and nuclear medicine units;
? planning, advising on and specifying the procurement of new
equipment and software in the above-mentioned units represented
by the department;
? physical-technical requirements of specialist physician
training (approx. 2 teaching periods per week, in English);
? teaching (lectures, seminars, practical training) in and
further development of the newly established course ?Medical
Imaging Technology? at King Abdulaziz University (between 10 and
15 teaching periods per week).

In addition your participation in establishing IMRT and other
innovative methods in radiation therapy would be highly welcome.
Due to local regulations you will only work in an advisory
capacity and not be responsible for radiation protection. The
RSO already in place at the hospital will provide support here.
The hospital?s concept combines experience gained in various
healthcare systems. In the working environment you will need to
deal with American, British and German approaches and will
frequently work with multinational teams in interdisciplinary
areas.

Your qualification:

You have a doctorate in Physics and at least five years of
professional experience, including two years in a responsible
position in a large hospital. A good command of English is an
absolute prerequisite. Ideally, you will already have held a
comparable position in an English-speaking country.

You are interested in other cultures and able to negotiate and
work in a different cultural environment.
