Food for a misguided thought (2)
--------------------------------

Claudio,

Human rights can mean different things depending on your
politics. My basic premise is that human beings have basic
rights because they are alive. Freedom is the most basic of
human rights. Freedom to pursue dreams and lifes goals.

I believe that where this whole thing goes awry is that people
expect government to guarantee something they have no right to
give (Human Rights). How is it that a government that oppresses
its people has to give human rights to its citizenry? Government
must give its people freedom before it can give them anything
else. The only legitimate role of government is the security of
the citizenry and providing a climate that allows citizens to
provide for themselves without taxing them to death.

I was curious how human rights were doing in the "Socialist
Paradise" (Vietnam) and it took about 2 minutes to locate a
doctor who has spent time in prison for criticism of the
government. Apparently the health care policies discriminate
against the poor there also.

This is why I am convinced that people must strive for freedom
first and other things will follow. I guarantee petitioning
entrenched politicians is only mildly entertaining for them, and
socialist doctrines will never allow their people to have any
semblance of true freedom. To do so would spell their own doom.
I've always been curious why socialist countries (Soviet Union,
Cuba, etc.) must corral their citizenry to keep them from
leaving.

In that respect I agree with you completely Claudio, there must
be political change, however freedom is the great equalizer for
all. All other routes to change are basically lip service to
citizens who die daily from simple diseases like malaria, and
government diverts funds to themselves because the citizens
suffering keeps the funds coming.
