Use of DDT against malaria (2)
------------------------------
Leela,
There have been many things written about the ban on DDT in 1972. Most do not support the theory that DDT made the eggs of Bald Eagles soft. The premise that DDT causes cancer is not factual at all either.
Your figures would amount to $20 per hut which is not bad actually. If you are willing to accept a 9/11 everyday from a disease that is easily controlled with a comprehensive malaria/mosquito eradication program, I however am not. If this was going on anywhere else but in Africa it would not be tolerated, period. Killing the mosquito is the only way. They spread the disease and kill many human beings daily.
People in Africa do not live under a bed net. They stay outside until way after dark to let their houses cool off before going to bed. This is when many are infected. I have no objection to bednets but find that they are only partially effective. They also make great fishing nets also.
Cheers,
Craig Audiss
