Use of DDT against malaria (15)
-------------------------------
Craig's (and Peter Burgess') responses to my e-mail missed the
point. I am not against Craig's position about the effectiveness
or otherwise of bed-nets. (My opinion - similar to his by the
way - is that bed-nets do not offer a sustainable solution to
prevention of malaria; its effectiveness is dependent on
behavioral and economic factors to which many users do not have
control over.)
Certainly I appreciate the commitment of men and women across
the world who are concerned and are anxious to support Africa in
halting the various epidemics that make our people suffer
endlessly.
What I queried in my contribution is him talking about Africa as
if she is one homogenous community. His statement ..."People in
Africa do not live under a bed net..." is a sweeping
generalisation about a whole continent.
