Originally the wording was: more than one sexual partner. 

The word promiscuous is over used and misleading.

People are being labeled promiscuous when often the reality is that people don't necessarily fall in love or find the right person; in the first person they meet or date.  

Hence the term dating!  For the most part individuals are looking to find a mate and this may lead to more than one sexual partner but by no means does this make the individual promiscuous.

With regards to Richard Wamai's comments: ""related language was altered (at least in the US) to 'men who have sex with men' (MSM)"". MSM is used due to the fact that we recognize many men do not define themselves as Gay and engage in sexual activity with other men as well as women.
