I have recently attended a course at the University of Pretoria where we were addressed by Calle Hedberg (mailto:chedberg@telkomsa.net)

His group runs HISP (Health Information Systems Programme) [http://www.hisp.org].They do health information systems for South Africa and many other African and Asian countries.
