Daniel,

All is not lost yet. This is a communication problem, a common scenerio in developing country where information is given to patient without facts and consideration of such information on the family. I would advice that you request for the lab result that showed the STI in your wife.A nd be willing also to submit to any STI screening in the company of your wife.

You might want to do journal search on the IUCD and possible infection after being in place for a period of time. There are many out there. And show/give to your wife to read.
