Open Learning Web site on Enteric pathogens
-------------------------------------------
Dear Friends of the Open Learning Web site on Enteric pathogens
A new lecture is available at site http://www.oloep.org/
Transferable Quinolone Resistance
Tony Hart (United Kingdom), University of Liverpool
Fluoroquinolones are one of the most important classes of antimicrobial
agents currently used in medicine. They are synthetic compounds and so
bacteria had not been exposed to them until their widespread use in the
1980s. Despite optimistic predictions that resistance would not emerge;
resistance has emerged. This basic lecture describes the current known
mechanisms of resistance. Fluoroquinolones are particularly important
for the treatment of enteric infections such as typhoid ever.
