Heat as a disinfection method for poultry houses persistently
infected with Salmonella
Kim Oren Gradel (Denmark) National Veterinary Institute, Århus,
Denmark

In the lecture are described the use of heat as disinfection
method to eliminate Salmonella in a poultry houses.

In worst-case scenario laboratory heating studies, all
Salmonella and naturally occurring E. coli were killed at 60°C
and 100% RH during a 24-hour period. After the application of
this gold standard in naturally Salmonella infected layer houses
no Salmonella was detected and organic samples had no surviving
indicator bacteria.
