PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases open for submissions (2)
--------------------------------------------------------

Hello All,

Postings such as this one frustrate me. Tropical diseases do not need any more study , mediation or organizations to suck the fat away from the underlying problem.

What these countries need is someone somewhere to nail down enough funding to do a comprehensive program such as malaria and prove to the bureaucrats that there really is something that can be done to do away with these diseases. All it takes is funding.

When I read about all the millions of dollars that are targeted for Africa and other places for disease / economic development I get mad as hell because that money is divided up between their buddies and stashed in bank accounts in places like the Bahamas, or just wasted. Nothing seems to ever change, it is almost like the people in control of the money do not want to fix the problem. The problem cannot be fixed because if we fix it in one place it will be expected in all places and eventually the money tree dries up.

Think that sounds crazy? What's your explanation? Explain to me how Billions of dollars get spent and it does no good. Thousands die daily from these diseases. Yet nothing happens, meetings are held, big shots jet around doing study after study, and people keep dying. The lack of results should be an embarrassment to these people but they just get more money. They should be thrown in prison.

Ladies and Gentlemen, might I suggest a program to keep this in the fore of every news agency that will listen. Whatever methods are necessary to get this out there and keep it there. (short of violence)

I suppose I have rambled a bit, I am tired of the way things are.

Cheers,
Craig
