Videoconference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
------------------------------------------------------------
March 8, 2007

Dear Sir/Madam,

The African Regional Youth Initiative (ARYI) and the African
Women of Distinction project invite you to a Young Women's
Consultation on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights to
take place on March 8, 2007 via videoconference involving
participants from Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Addis Ababa
(Ethiopia), and Accra (Ghana). The goal of the consultation is
to promote and advocate for young women's participation on
sexual and reproductive health and rights issues at all levels
while building linkages between youth, women, and national,
regional, and international organizations.

The consultation will also provide an opportunity to analyze
critical issues that will:
(1) Provide a platform for young women's participation in
advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights;

2) Disseminate country-specific information on reproductive
health needs of young women to non-governmental organizations,
governments, donor agencies, and other development partners; and

(3) Mobilize youth, women, and development partners to advocate
for policy change promoting reproductive health and rights of
young people in Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Ghana.

It is expected that 30-50 participants per country will
participate in this consultation, which is part of a series of
consultations to take place throughout Africa in 2007. One of
the expected outcomes of the consultation is the development (or
strengthening where appropriate) of Youth Policy Groups to
advocate for reproductive health policy change in Tanzania,
Ghana and in Ethiopia. The mission of the Youth Policy Groups,
an initiative of the African Regional Youth Initiative created
in 2005, is to inform, inspire, and mobilize African youth in
order to bridge the gap between policy and its implementation,
(b) promote and advocate for reproductive health policies, and
(c) build a foundation of youth empowerment and leadership
skills.

Your participation will assist to ensure representation from
your organization and/or constituency in the advocacy efforts of
these policy groups.
