RFI: San Francisco puzzle
-------------------------

Dear colleagues,

Please what is your opinion on this issue?

Since the AIDS epidemic began in 1981, there have been over 27,000 AIDS cases reported in San Francisco. But in the past 26 years, there have only officially been a total of 96 male heterosexual contact cases, around 4 per year, reported. And in the same period of time, there have only a total of 270 female heterosexual AIDS cases reported, or about ten per year. By most estimates, approximately 80-85% of the entire population of San Francisco is heterosexual and many of them surely seem to lead very active and diverse sexual lives.

So what kinds of reasons or explanations would you give to local citizens if they ever asked you why there have been so incredibly few cases of heterosexual AIDS cases in San Francisco?

Thank you.

Regards,
Dr. Abanum Mark
