Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for a three-year appointment as Deputy Head of IT. This is a senior post at the MRC that is looking for someone with the experience and ability to take responsibility for all aspect of the Unit's Computer Network & Servers both existing and planned. A very important aspect of this work will be to ensure that the Network & Servers are reliable, secure and that down time is kept to a minimum. You will also be responsible for the Network & Servers at the upcountry field stations, providing them with the same standard of support as at the main site in Fajara.

We seek someone with:
Ø       A degree in computing or a scientific/mathematical subject (with a substantial computing component) or a post-secondary computing qualification, plus 5 years computing work experience. 
Ø       Minimum of 3 years working in a System Administrator capacity on Server Systems, preferably Compaq or Intel based servers.
Ø       Excellent Networking skills: TCP/IP, Firewall, Router, VSAT Configuration.
Ø       Certification or 2 years experience of Server Operating Systems (MS Server 2003).
Ø       Certification or 2 years experience of Exchange 2003 Email.
Ø       Experience of Veritas Backup Software & Server Disaster recovery.
Ø       Experience of Antivirus Software Distribution & Patch Management.
Ø       Excellent knowledge of PC Hardware & Software (Including MS Desktop products such as MS-Office, Project etc).
Ø       Management experience.
Ø       Excellent Communicator in English: Written & Verbal.
Ø       Ability to work co-operatively in a team or independently with little supervision.
Ø       Willingness to travel and work upcountry as the need arises.
Ø       Willingness to be on call out of office hours
Ø       Compaq Cluster Management and experience of telephone systems, Programming/Systems development, Project Management as well as experience working in the field of Medical Research would be an advantage.

The appointment is for 3 years, extendable by mutual agreement.

The salary is within MRC's Occupational Group E1at a minimum total salary package of 475,704 Dalasis per annum. For displaced staff the package will include displacement allowance, rent free furnished accommodation, flights and other benefits.
