RFI: Faculty Practice guidelines (2)
------------------------------------

HI Nilufa

I work in a pharmacy department and am in the process of developing a mission/ vision statement around the concept of teaching care. This is based on the concept of pharmaceutical care that since the mid 1980's has provided considerable guidance and direction to the practice of pharmacy.

My thesis is that as educators we should accept as our professional obligation a commitment to identifying and satisfying the needs of learners and identifying and preventing learner problems. This will entail a commitment to learner outcomes in addition to a commitment to maintaining our competence as educators (not just subject specialists).

I would be interested in the comments of your contributors as to the perceived viability of this idea - it would have to be enshrined in some form of social contract between educators and learners in which the rights and responsibilities of both parties were negotiated and quality assured.

Cheers, Billy
