Small-Scale Incinerator Construction: Recommendations from the Rwanda Experience
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Making Medical Injections Safer (MMIS) project is pleased to announce a new document, Small-Scale Incinerator Construction: Recommendations from the Rwanda Experience. This document highlights recommendations from the Rwanda experience with a partnership between the Ministries of Health and Environment, the World Bank Multisector AIDS Project (MAP), MMIS, and the World Health Organization that supports infrastructure and systems development to ensure the safe handling, treatment, and final disposal of infectious medical waste.
This resource was developed in an effort to assist stakeholders interested in safe disposal of medical waste in Rwanda and other countries. It is designed to help partners better plan health care waste management infrastructure projects that include small-scale incineration construction and is available on the MMIS website, (www.mmis.jsi.com) in English, French and Portuguese (please click the New Resources link on the right side of the home page). Please send requests for additional information to mailto:mmisinfo@jsi.com.
MMIS is a five-year initiative funded by the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief through USAID and the CDC that works to empower 11 countries in Africa and the Caribbean to reduce the medical transmission of HIV and other bloodborne diseases by improving injection safety. The project also works with local governments to build sustainable programs in each country that establish and implement national plans for safe disposal of medical waste associated with injections. MMIS is implemented by John Snow, Inc. (JSI) in collaboration with PATH, AED, and the Manoff Group.
