AVRI Research Methodology Course - East Africa

Dear Colleagues,
Following a small but successful course in Durban 2006, the African Vision Research Institute (AVRI) is looking to repeat its INTRODUCTORY RESEARCH METHODOLOGY COURSE.
The course will be suitable for Eyecare Professionals, NGO's, Departments of Health, Skills Development Facilitators, Researchers at Academic and Research Institutions, Academia at tertiary institutions, Researchers, Post-Graduate Students, Research Project Managers in public, private and Non-Governmental Sectors.
Amongst others, the course will cover:
1. Intro to Epidemiology
- Measuring Health (Rates, ratios, proportions, incidence, prevalence)
- Descriptive Epidemiology
- Epi study designs
2. The research process
- Study designs
- Sampling
3. Summarising, presenting and interpreting data
- Types of variables
- Data management - collection, cleaning and analyzing
- Summarising and Presentation of categorical and numerical data
- Measures of Central location and Tendency
4. Evidence based Research
5. Public Health Blindness Prevention Research in:
- Epidemiology
- Services
- Technology
- Education
