Panos G8 Media Fellowships May-July 2007
----------------------------------------
The Panos Global AIDS Programme invites senior print and broadcast journalists from Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda to apply for a fellowship to write/produce features on the G8 Summit 2007 and its implication for the HIV and AIDS response in their countries.
Fellowships will run from May to July 2007.
The aim of the Panos fellowships is to enable print and broadcast journalists in the selected countries explore the implications of the promises made at the G8 summits to the national AIDS response in their countries. Particular emphasis will be on support to health care systems and to what extent those most affected can achieve universal access to AIDS prevention, treatment and care by 2010, a commitment made by G8 leaders.
Germany will host this year's G8 summit at the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendam on 6-8 June 2007 on the theme "Growth and Responsibility." Top on the agenda is the challenge of poverty in Africa and specifically global cooperation in the response to the AIDS pandemic on the continent. Panos plans to sponsor the best fellows to go to Germany for the G8 summit where they will be expected to write a daily blog or produce a radio report for the Panos London and InterWorld Radio websites, and prior to the summit will be expected to research relevant stories and the perspectives of relevant people in their countries to inform these materials.
To be selected, the journalists must have an excellent record of journalism, first-class English-language writing skills and not less than five years post-qualification work experience on a national or international newspaper, magazine or radio station.

. Curriculum vitae
. Up to five samples of published/broadcast work (tapes or transcripts) on health/development issues
. A 500-word write up explaining why the applicant should be considered for the fellowship along with a tentative proposal for their research
