Discussion about WHOPES and Long-lasting Insecticidal Nets to control malaria (9)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear All,
It is not surprising that these arguments have ensued. We have now arrived at a situation where an industry has developed on the back of a health problem - malaria. The role of WHOPES as far as standardization of insecticides for use in malaria control is very useful and necessary. However, the decision whether public money should be spent on insecticides only approved by WHOPES should be left with member countries based on evidence - that has already been provided by WHOPES. To make joint public statements with a private firm with commercial interest on the matter as we have just witnessed, in my opinion amounts to 'fraud'. This could lead to WHO and its agencies losing credibility.
