Discussion about WHOPES and Long-lasting Insecticidal Nets to control malaria (10)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tarry,

I am afraid it is too late, the WHO has lost credibility long ago. I am trying to figure out where your comment about FRAUD came from. I have reviewed what has been said in this discussion and I am confused. I am hoping for a clarification Tarry.

I will address your comment on "an industry developing on the back of a health problem". I have monitored and written on this site for some time now and I have seen alot of things change over that time. A lot of fruitful discussion has molded a very good group of people who are trying to stop a terrible disease in Africa- malaria.

I did however visit your link on carenet and read the article on Nigeria. These are the kind of things that really disgust me. There is to be $180 million dollars allocated to Nigeria to combat chiefly malaria. Of that 40% will be spent on drugs and bednets. The other $108 million will be spent on "fiduciary" or agents of the government at all levels to "scale up" these efforts. Sounds like a typical African venture to waste money and accomplish very little. Meanwhile the people keep dying.

My research indicates that with $180 million dollars a complete, comprehensive malaria control program could be implemented just like is done in other places where malaria is a rare disease now. Don't tell me that it cannot be done in Africa either people because I don't believe that. It cannot be done if the money gets wasted by bureaucrats and greed however. If the money doesn't get wasted many things can be accomplished. It is really up to those that control that huge amount of money to do the right thing for the people, not the few. I do not want to be misunderstood here either, I am not saying that Tarry is going to do something wrong. I am saying that the money will get spent and things will go on the way they always do in Africa.

I am sure that everyone is lining up to take a shot at me too. That is OK by me, PROVE ME WRONG. If I am wrong I will gladly apologize, we'll see what got accomplished after the money is gone.

Cheers,
Craig
