Request for comments, views and information on the Gates Foundation (2)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridget,
The influence of Foundations like Gates Foundation is definitely an issue of concern. Indeed the concern is based on the notion that the same flawed thinking that led MS to dominate Markets leading to US anti-trust action will impact the development community and move things in the wrong direction.
And of course it is not just about Health even though that is GF's focus area. Agriculture too is an area of focus for GF. One needs not speculate much about which side GF will go on the GMO debate. And ill thought agricultural practices can and of course have adversely impacted human health in a myriad of ways. Already GF has teamed with Rockerfeller Foundation to promote the "second green revolution" - as if the impact of the first was not devastating enough on the ecology of the planet to merit serious reconsideration of industrial monoculture crop farming esp. with consideration to application in tropical regions which it was not designed for.
Let me know if this line of discussion might be relevant to your chapter as I did not see anything along those lines mentioned below.
