Hello All,
The London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine prize for the 5000th randomized patient for the Crash 2 trials has finally been popped out! .
and the winner is Dr. Okwen P Mbah !
It is worthwhile mentioning, that 3 people die in Cameroon daily from road traffic accidents only (MINSAP JUNE 2007). Many more people suffer severe trauma from falls from heights (especially trees and buildings). 45% of trauma cases will die because of hemorrhagic complications!
These accidents result from lack of adequate infrastructure for safe traffic, the introduction of new and cheap but fragile motorbikes from China, and certain occupations which require tree climbing eg palm nut cutters, palm wine tapers and fruit harvesters.
Therefore, if these studies can finally prove efficacy of tranexamic acid in reducing morbidity and mortality from trauma, it will play a crucial role in this country!
However it will be very useful if such studies can also try to bring to the attention of the appropriate authorities, suggestions on how such problems can be tackled.
Zih Zila Wamucho.
