New on the id21 website: id21 focus

id21 focus - a new online publication from id21, reports on research from research institutes, programmes or projects (particularly in developing countries) that want to disseminate their research to a wider audience with support from id21. An occasional series, each issue will focus on one topic. id21 focus is online at: http://www.id21.org/focus

id21 focus on unsafe abortion

Every eight minutes a woman dies somewhere in a developing country due to complications from an unsafe abortion. She most likely had little money or support to obtain safe services. She probably first tried to induce a termination herself. Failing that she would have turned to an unskilled, but relatively inexpensive, provider.

Produced in collaboration with the Realising Rights Research Programme Consortium and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, this issue of id21 focus highlights the key debates around unsafe abortion and points to important lessons for decision-makers.

* Editorial: The high cost of unsafe abortion
* The health dangers of unsafe abortion
* Unsafe abortion costs in Mexico City
* The economic impact of unsafe abortion
* Saving women's lives: calling for a giant leap in international abortion policy
* Reducing abortion costs to health systems
