Dear Ms. Burket:
I'm a recent connector to the afro-nets Web Site and networking communications service, and was particularly taken by the content of the materials sent out in the e-mail I'm responding to.
I've devoted a lifetime to doing Community Economic Development work - both in the developing nations (some 70, on 4 Continents), as well as in the US's domestic pockets of under-developed resources, skills and opportunities. (This latter including work with over 100 Native American Tribes, Bands & Organizations, throughout the US/Canada/No. Mexico; as well as in directing sections of the "War on Poverty".) So many of the reference materials - even those pertaining to "business" development techniques. [NB: I'm now officially titled a "Social Entrepreneur", and my bio in that regard can be viewed, as a "Podcast" item, found in the Skoll Foundation's "Social Edge" Web Site, for the week of 8/21/07, in case you are interested.]
I am currently involved in introducing a relatively new, non-chemical/toxic - nor havubg any negative health side-affects/after-taste - water & fresh produce purification agent, to the developing nations. My major expertise is with Africa, so while my broader responsibilities (as a Primary Agent, for the firm that owns and makes this solution) take me to many places, including special "niche" applications in the US market - I'm currently focused on working with African nations.
One of the greatest gifts and most positive potential areas this solution can now offer, is in creating TRULY (vs. just partially*) Pure and Good Tasting potable water; water that infants and young children, along with their parents, around the world will gladly want to drink! The reason? This healthy mineral-based solution - tested and fully approved my many major Labs, worldwide; but particularly the renown "Institut Pasteur", in France - makes impure and polluted water totally safe to drink, and leaves it's natural taste, color and smell totally intact. If people must resort to turbid/post-flooding waters, it will totally kill ALL manner & types of pathogens; and works will with additives like Aluminum sulfate, to clarify such water.
I'm sure you are fully aware of the continuing horrible WHO stats on water-borne disease mortality/morbidity rates worldwide, and particularly in certain geographic areas/developing countries. One of the worst of these, in my book at least, is the one for Infant/small child deaths from one of the easiest of all water borne diseases to prevent; i.e., Diarrheic dehydration. It doesn't even require ANY medicine; just assuredly pure water; i.e., water that has been purged of ALL forms of pathogens, not just some of the most obvious.
I may be mistaken, or presumptuous, but it seems to me that Water Health Education and alternatives should be a comparably high level priority, specifically relative to Mother & Infant health considerations, for live and healthy baby deliveries. However, too many of both our government and NGO groups are still totally reliant on the now almost exclusive use of Chlorine for potable water creation. And as we all know now, Chlorine has clearly been identified as a Carcinogen; totally apart from its terrible after-taste/smell (which makes infants & small children naturally reject drinking it, plus the other negative side affects that can often kick-in shortly after ingestion.
This was understandable in the past, as until a little over a decade ago, it was "the only game in town" (apart from Iodine, Boiling and costly/complicated/impractical filtration systems; which still didn't kill/remove ALL forms of pathogens!).
At any rate, I wanted at least open up a dialog with you and the health focused organizations you work with, to see if this area of health is something you'd like to do more with. I invite you to learn more about our very versatile solution, by going to the parent company's Web Site (cited below). And please, feel free to e-mail or call me, if there's any other specific information you'd like to have electronically sent, to broaden your awareness of this vital area.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
J.N. Boylson
