Very interesting news and one that should give everyone working in Africa something to cheer about.
But that should not be. For one thing . This is a continent where the health management information system (HMIS) is so poor that we cannot accurately count how many people die of malaria and other infectious diseases including measles. So how did the Measles Partnership arrive at this data. I would worry very much if data from Nigeria made this 91% figure because getting HMIS up and run to measure how well the health system is doing is one of system issues we are struggling with here in the country.
Even if this figure were to be true, does this strategy of mass campaign become a major feature of measles eradication rather than re-vitalizing the health system so that the huge resources that was spent on the mass campaign can be better applied. Why should a measles partnership ever exist if the very partners have a strong system thinking?
In my opinion this is yet another public relations propaganda of this 'development industry' people to secure their jobs while the 'nations cry' - apologizes Lucky Dube.
