Dear Colleagues
I just read my own contribution to this discussion and was not impressed ... a lot of words and nothing very much in them to move the agenda forward.
My constant theme is that information is very valuable in helping to make decisions, and that essential information is a lot more difficult to find than it should be.
Why? Why? Why is the information that has been requested not easily accessible and "a click away" on the Internet.
Some data are around ... but they are not easy to find and not very well organized for easy use.
A comparative table of user fees across countries (and also in different places within countries) would be interesting. Local currency ... exchange rate relative to a reference currency like US$ or Euro ... and comparison in the reference currency.
A similar table showing key data about the fund flows through the health sector would be interesting also. How many people in the donor community are aware of how little financial resources are available in country from the government and the ministries of health ... and how this available money is allocated ... and then what exactly the fund flows are from donors and the conditionality attached to these fund flows from donors.
If people can help me collect the information ... I will happily try to put this information together in a set of web accessible tables that is easy to understand and use.
Sincerely
Peter Burgess
