Friends,
Am witnessing for the first time a thing that I never thought I would ever in a democratic country like Kenya. Am in Kisumu and we are facing a humanitarian crisis since our Electoral Commission declared Mwai Kibaki as the winner.
I have an appeal to the international community to face up and ask the president to bring us food at least...not guns an bullets. Kisumu is virtually cut off of the rest of Kenya since we have a news black-out. Most of you may think am crazy by asking for food through this tell this forum...it's the only channel I have to reach you. I also know that this forum contain influential people that can petition our president.
I do not want to question the legitimacy of his presidency, but I pause to ask, why is he so scared of an audit to the tallying of results? Why was he sworn in at night and within 15 minutes of being declared the winner? Am amazed that this is happening in Kenya.
That is besides the point...we are starving! In Kisumu, most shops were closed on December 21st so most food reserves are finished. I personally have not eaten a thing since Sunday morning. I only feed on smoke and sounds of bullets renting the air. My extended family is only 45 minutes away but can't reach them even on phone because there's no where to buy phone-cards! we have a curfew and blackout...Where is Red-Cross by the way????? Please, please, please, talk to our leaders and ask them to bring us FOOD FIRST!
Silas, Kisumu-Kenya
