Mr. Burgess: I just got around to reading this very thoughtful/thought provoking communication to your friends/colleagues in the Afro-Nets network, and hasten to respond.  My primary purpose is to further your objective of "Collecting the Dots", in order to better connect them downstream.  I also send this, in this form, to help provoke thought & move the discussion over to a "practicum" vs. "theoretical/philosophical" basis.

As a 75+ year old, whose life & professional experience (in the somewhat arcane field of Community Economic Development) has taken me now to something over 70 countries on 4 continents (and still counting!), in over 55 years of helping others help themselves, I can probably relate to your rhetorical philosophical questions better than many, if not most.

A little over 1.5/years ago, I was motivated to come out of retirement (again, for the 3rd time), to respond to an invitation from a Disabled Vet from our sorry Viet Nam military excursion, who - along with some others - had developed a new, appropriate technology system for maintaining Colloidal Silver ("CS") in perpetual suspension; an essential to allow it to pass very rigid Lab Test criteria, for qualifying as a Water Purification &/or Germicidal/Antiseptic solution.
As you may already be well aware, Silver has long been known - i.e., dating back to our very ancient great civilizations - as "nature's purifier".  It is well proven to have amazingly potent anti-germicidal powers, as well as unique pathogen killing properties: I.e., totally unlike, and thereby much, much more efficient*, than the toxic chemical agents which have been in use for at least a century, & 1 of which (Chlorine) has become the "default" water/fresh produce & cleansing purifier for many years now. {NB: *I.e., kills pathogens Chlorine doesn't touch, at least not without pre-boiling; doesn't die/degrade in the process, & can't be fooled by mutant or chem/drug resistant strains!} 
You are also most likely aware, being professionally involved in the medical sciences & broader health field, the now very popular/widely used - i.e., by virtually every NGO & Water Services provider - Chlorine forms, and serving as their "default" purifier, are highly toxic chemicals:  With many negative health side-effects now well known - and Laboratory proven! - to your contemporaries, as well as likely yourself.
But being a known Carcinogenic form is but 1, albeit likely worst, in longer term health considerations; some adults &/or children, drinking chlorinated water, have been known to go into convulsive states, and/or become visibly ill, almost immediately after ingestion.
Other aspects of our commercial world - Agribusiness & its totally connected processing/packaging industries in particular - now also use toxic chemical variations on this theme (especially since the national e-Coli outbreak, in packaged leaf produce); as well as to control pathogens that attack crops & related vegetation.  Their chemicals ALL have strong residual and staying power characteristics; which is why they are selected over others.  Meanwhile, they play havoc with humans that must apply, then work around the materials they've applied these toxic materials to; as well, obviously, as to those of us ingesting them. 

The industries that make - and have had a virtual, non-competitive market for - these environmental, ecological and health negative impact solutions/agents, are by now very, very "deep pocketed", well entrenched enterprises.  In fact, I find as I travel the world in my efforts to introduce our alternative purification solution, that they are not only willing, but eager, to use these combined financial & status powers/tactics to keep ANY & ALL items that can reasonable compete - in performance, as well as cost effectiveness - OUT of their markets and from being at all competitive.  And end users (but not the end recipients), fearing their wrath &/or loss of some largess they are providing, are simply "going along to get along" (as they say in the halls of Congress), continuing to poison their clients with these toxic agents.  "Killing with Kindness", is probably the most apt description of this process; even those representing the most humanitarian-driven institutions -
like the Catholic Church's CRS, whose basic tenet is 'protecting the sanctity of life' - are loathe to now make the changes & shifts in materials/procedures necessary to correct old, "evil" ways.

A very poignant indicator of this contention - which you, as a health practitioner can surely appreciate - are the annual Mortality/Morbidity stats published by WHO, based on nationally provided and other source stats, for just 1 of the many more prevalent Water-borne diseases; e.g., Diarrheoiac dehydration.
This disease doesn't even require ANY medicine to stop it!; simply the availability of totally pure potable water.  Yet it remains a constant (to growing, in some sectors) and horrific stat, year after year.
Public Health workers/others that have ever been involved in trying to educate & introduce such disease type eradication can confirm, if you haven't experienced it yourself, that getting infants/small children to drink ANY type of chlorinated water usually requires "force feeding", or the like.  So vexed parents turn to impure/raw water, just to keep them hydrated.

My major point: Both those with umbilical-like ties to the poison producers, and that fairly large segment of the medical profession itself -  that still treats anything that isn't a patented, synthetic chemical issued by their (and FDA/EPA's) "sponsors", the Pharmaceutical interests - as some sort of "Voodoo" homeopathic quackery, are perpetrating a great measure of both harm/duplicity on those they are sworn to protect.  Their medical oath: "First Do No Harm" is conveniently rationalized, then avoided & rings holloow.
New products that COULD do some good, while providing highly valuable alternatives for those acknowledging the faults of current practices, really wanting to do things in different ways, are either frustrated, compromised or bought off! 
So, Bottom Line: DOES YOUR VERSION OF " COLLECTING/CONNECTING THE DOTS" INCLUDE TAKING ON THE TOUGH ISSUES &/OR WELL HEALED VESTED INTERESTS, THAT SEEK TO MAINTAIN THIS SICK AND SCARY "STATUS QUO"?  Sadly, from my perspective, it certainly doesn't seem to; at least for the vast majority of your "Right ON!" Gen X-ers, or whatever sham category your age group is pegged to.
And, that's exactly why these evil conditions prevail; simply not enough of even the most knowledgeable people willing to "connect the dots", let alone try to do anything about the patterns they see when those lines are finally "connected".

My firms are taking on these nefarious interests; head on!  We're not rich, or even particularly well connected (even though I recently had a lovely late dinner in an Irish castle, with Bill & Hillary Clinton, & have been working with the Clinton Foundation in E. Africa for several years; plus, having worked/gone to school with a number of people now very high in Congress, the UN, etc.).  But we're simply operating on a very basic principle: "The truth shall set you free!"
If you, or any other like thinkers, would like to affiliate with our world-wide efforts in this regard, we'd love talking to you more about what we are trying to do to reform just our little corner of the health world.

As a footnote, please also observe: Our solution, taken internally, has recently been found an excellent curb on HIV Cell growth; restoring to health red blood cells of Malaria victims; curbing, if not curing the dreaded new skin infection aka "Morgellon's disease"; and, as either an outright cure or healing accelerator for a list of illnesses/afflictions that now runs to 1.5/Pps, single spaced. [Copies of same available, on request!].

With the cooperation of younger health services (PH) & medical practitioners - that AREN'T afraid of their professional "Boogy-men" & homeopathic alternative scare tactics - we could ALL be performing REAL "miracles of modern medicine"; and on a grand scale that would be mind blowing.
