The Centre for Health Policy (CHP)<http://web.wits.ac.za/Academic/Centres/chp/> is an established health policy and health system research unit based in the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand. In addition to multi-disciplinary research, CHP is involved in policy engagement, post-graduate teaching, capacity development and networking. CHP receives funding from a range of national and international donors.
CHP is recruiting two new administrative staff members to support our activities.
SENIOR OFFICE MANAGER
We want to employ an office manager to head our Finance and Admin team. We are looking for a skilled, dynamic, problem-solving administrator who is looking for a new challenge and wants to be part of growing CHP by ensuring that the organisation is run effectively and efficiently. Key tasks of the job include providing strategic leadership; serving on the management committee; leading human resource and financial management; managing the admin team; providing support to researchers; and overseeing grant management activities.
We are looking for someone with at least 5 years relevant work experience including writing budgets, grant management, human resource management and financial management. The person needs to have good interpersonal and leadership skills; strong analytical skills; good written and verbal communication skills; advanced knowledge of Excel and an accounting software package such as Pastel. Experience with Oracle and the Wits University finance systems, a drivers license, and a B.Com in finance, accounting or administration would be an advantage.
RESEARCH COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (PART-TIME)
We also want to employ a Communications Officer to work one day a week at CHP. The person will be expected to develop and implement a research communication strategy for CHP; identify target communication audiences; develop website materials; produce dissemination materials such as briefing notes; and work with researchers to increase communication effectiveness.
Applicants must have strong all round communication skills especially writing and editing. They must be able to analyse, summarise and communicate academic material. They must also be able to work as part of a team in an environment that involves prioritisation, multi-tasking and strategic thinking. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate with staff, journalists and policy makers at all levels, are also required. Knowledge of health system research and the South African health system would be an advantage.
