Dear Johanne,

In response to your query re guidelines / references on perinatal audits, I would like to suggest the Indian Verbal Autopsy system. Although this system was not established in an African setting, it is easily adjusted. Perhaps also check out the SAVVY - MEASURE and the InDEPTH websites. Both these initiatives have focused on vital statistics registration and verbal autopsies to establish causes of death of people who died outside of the health sector.
