Medical and Acturial Research Foundation - ZimbabweTHE FOUNDATION The ZimRe Medical and Actuarial Research Foundation was launched on 1 August 1996 by the Board of the Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation (ZIMRE) to promote medical and actuarial research. The setting up of the Foundation is another example of ZimRe's commitment to give something back to the community within which it operates. The Foundation is administered by a nine member Board of Trustees appointed by the ZimRe Board of Directors. The current Board of Trustees is chaired by Dr. Stephen Chandiwana and the other Trustees are: Professor H. Chinyanga, Professor L. Ndlovu, Mrs S. Mugugu, Dr. V. Mlambo, Professor N. Z. Nyazema, Dr E. Pangeti, Dr A. Sibanda and Professor S.A. Tswana, all professionals in their particular fields. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the Foundation are:
THE FOUNDATION'S FUNDS ZimRe contributed an endowment or base fund of Zimbabwe $5 million to the Foundation. As such it is the interest accruing from the Z$ 5 million that will be used to support research projects or training programmes that qualify for funding. It is hoped that more funds will be donated to the Foundation from individuals and/or organisations who wish to promote research and training in medical and actuarial science. HOW TO APPLY Enquiries, and/or applications for funding should be directed to:
The Chairman Only applications which meet the objectives of the Foundation will be considered. The Foundation wishes especially to promote training in Actuarial science. Applications for training in actuarial science should state clearly the candidate's educational qualifications (certified copies of certificates), the intended training programme, the University or College to be or being attended, the duration of the programme and the total budget. Applications for research funding should provide detailed information on the planned research project, including the expected duration of the work and a detailed budget, as well as the applicant's CV. Research grants will normally be granted for a period of three years, after which any unused funds will revert back to the Foundation. N.B. Deadlines for the receipt of Applications are the end of February and the end of August each year. OBLIGATIONS OF APPLICANTS Beneficiaries of research or training grants or loans will be expected to submit progress reports to the Board of Trustees once every six months, and a final report of results. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to cancel any funding on the basis of nonavailable progress in ones research work or training, misuse of the Foundation's funds or deviation of funds to other projects without the Board's approval.
